Wind Nuisance

In countries with high-rise buildings of 5 stories or more as well as higher average wind velocities the local wind climate near building corners, entries and court yards and change to a nuisance  for the pedestrians. Clothes are pulled in all directions, doors won't open, paper and other light debris circle around. Sometimes the areas become even highly dangerous, causing blowing over the pedestrians.

Furthermore buildings of less than 5 stories, but adjacent to a beach can cause considerable nuisance to the beach users due to the fact that the higher wind velocities cause sand storm of the fines particles.

However in most cases, based upon literature information and theoretical flow studies, solutions can be indicated to avoid most of these negative aspects. Only for some buildings with a more complex lay-out a more time constraining wind tunnel analysis shall be necessary.
